While the junior-high members of the Great Outdoor Track were learning about avalanche safety, the senior-high members went skiing and boarding on Schweitzer. Gosh, this Outdoor Track stuff is hard!

Junior High
The avalanche threat is high! Junior high Great Outdoor Track students learned today how to test the snow pack for possible avalanche threats. SOLE instructors guided the students through multiple snow assessments. It was foggy to start, but the sun finally peaked through---wish you were there!

Feb. 10, Update
While the school was originally closed (and reported on this blog as such) due to a gas leak, the leak was found and repaired in time to allow for a half-day of school. So Mr. Mac led the Great Outdoor Track students in a series of fun team-building exercises, among other activities.

More Outdoor Survival Pictures
Graham and Dave were our instructors. The kids had several activities they took part in. Building a snow structure to shelter themselves from the elements, taking Douglas Fir needles and making tea, and starting a fire in the elements with just one match. The kids where divided into four teams and had to work together to accomplish each task.

Feb. 3, Update
The Great Outdoors Track students spent the day at Judy's Place, learning about emergency survival in the winter. They worked with Graham, a specialist in outdoor survival. Pictures and video below.
